Bug is the fourth studio album by American nu metal band Korn. Information technology was released on November 16, 1999, through Immortal Records. The album was promoted throughout 2000 by the ring's highly successful Sick and Twisted Bout.

Recording and product [edit]

During one of the band's recording sessions, journalist Chris Connelly asked near how the recording was coming along, to which drummer David Silveria responded that it "Sounds similar the music is a piddling more simplified and heavier. Kind of heavier grooves, more than than the final couple. Then kind of more similar to the beginning, except Jon is a much ameliorate singer now, so it's all coming together."[4]

In October 1999, Korn posted "Falling Away from Me" on their website as a costless MP3 download, although it was against the advice of its attorneys. A statement on the band's site relates: "We're so psyched about [the new anthology] that we wanted to give all yous guys, the truthful Korn fans — a souvenir from us." Besides at this time, the band attempted to start an online chain electronic mail, by posting the letter online and asking fans to email the letter to 10 other people and to then sign the "I Downloaded the Korn Unmarried for Free" guestbook on the ring's site. For each person who signed, Korn donated 25 cents to the charities Childhelp U.s.a. and Children of the Night. It raised over $250,000.[5]

The album featured four unlike covers each designed by Korn fans as office of an MTV contest (the winning cover, submitted in a pizza box,[6] was designed past Alfredo Carlos; another album cover for special limited edition of the album features a cartoonish half-caricature for the band). There was likewise a 5th cover selected for the limited tour edition of the album.[seven]

Release and commercial performance [edit]

Problems sold almost 575,000 copies in its kickoff six days of being released[eight] and went to number 1 on the Billboard 200, preventing both Dr. Dre'south 2001 (which sold 516,000) and Celine Dion'south All the Style... A Decade of Song from going to number 1.[nine] To celebrate the release of Issues, Korn performed the entire album in its running order at Harlem'due south famed Apollo Theater.[x] On December 22, 1999, a month afterward the album's release date, Problems was certified iii× platinum by the Recording Industry Clan of America (RIAA). Co-ordinate to Nielsen Soundscan, Issues sold at least 3,047,076 copies in the United states.[xi] On Billboard 's year-cease chart for the year 2000, Issues was at number nineteen.[12]

Three songs from Issues were released as singles: "Falling Away from Me", "Brand Me Bad", and "Somebody Someone". On December 25, 1999, "Falling Abroad from Me" went to number 8 on the Bubbling Nether Hot 100 Singles chart. "Falling Away from Me" was on that nautical chart for xvi weeks.[13] "Falling Away from Me" also went to number seven on the Mainstream Stone Songs nautical chart[14] and number seven on the Modern Rock Tracks chart.[15] On Apr 22, 2000, "Make Me Bad" went to number xiv on the Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles chart. "Brand Me Bad" was on that nautical chart for 12 weeks.[16] "Make Me Bad" also went to number 9 on the Mainstream Rock Songs nautical chart[14] and number 7 on the Mod Rock Tracks chart.[15] "Falling Away from Me" went to number 1 on MTV'south Full Request Live many times during both November and December 1999.[17] [18]

The anthology received mixed to positive reviews. Co-ordinate to the band in the booklet that comes with Greatest Hits, Vol. 1 album, they did not want to be function of a pop tendency and wanted to practice their own affair. The ring admits that with Brendan O'Brien working alongside them, they were more focused during recording because he didn't let them just fool around and party, and so there was a lot less drinking this time around.

In 2021, it was named ane of the xx all-time metallic albums of 1999 by Metal Hammer magazine.[25]
